Father Enrique Martínez Gamboa, parish priest of the Santa Martha Church, of the Archdiocese of Managua, will be subjected to a political trial on February 10, anonymous sources revealed to Article 66.
The religious is accused of alleged crimes of conspiracy to undermine national integrity and propagation of false news to the detriment of the State of Nicaragua. The father is pointed out by the Ortega justice system for violating Law 1050, the Sovereignty Law and Law 1042, the Special Cybercrime Law.
On January 19, the second judge of the Managua Criminal Trial District, Nadia Camila Tardencilla, began the proceedings to organize the trial against the priest, the expert in administration of justice and former official of the Judiciary reported on his Twitter account. Yader Morazan.

The Public Ministry at the service of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo offered some seven “witnesses” for the political trial against the priest Martínez Gamboa. The witnesses against the priest are: Thelma Marina Aragón Sandoval, Jairo Manuel Tercero Gutiérrez, Miguel Ángel Alvarado, Holmann Danilo Pacheco, Sergio Noel Alemán and the experts Miguel Ángel López and Xavier Corea Martínez.
The priest was violently kidnapped on October 13, 2022 and became, at that time, the ninth religious imprisoned by the Ortega Murillo regime in the context of repression against the Catholic Church, its bishops and priests. The accusation against Father Enrique Martínez was presented on October 14, one day after his capture, by Public Ministry prosecutor Heydi Estela Ramírez Olivas.
Father Martínez Gamboa wrote several opinion articles criticizing the administration of the Ortega Murillo regime. These texts were published in the newspaper La Prensa in past years, according to files available on the newspaper’s website.
A video of Father Gamboa went viral on social media when he took the microphone at the end of the 2018 Mother’s Day march outside the Central American University (UCA). In the midst of the repression carried out by the Police a few meters from the place, the priest gave an encouraging speech that ignited the spirit of the population that was protesting in demand for justice.
«Nicaraguans are the majority, we have a clean heart, not our hands stained with blood like others. Don’t cower, don’t cower. Long live Nicaragua. Out with the murderous couple, out with the miserable murderers, out, out, out,” said the priest.
