MADRID, Spain.- The recent statements by senior officials of the Cuban Ministry of the Interior (MININT) about the current migration crisis have provoked the indignation of many Cubans. When appearing at the Round table This Tuesday, the Cuban authorities tried to remove all responsibility for the mass exodus and its consequences, blaming the Cuban Adjustment Act and the United States Government.
“How many more deaths are needed for the United States to have a normal migratory relationship with Cuba? How many more deaths are needed for the Cuban Adjustment Act to be eliminated? How many more deaths are needed to eliminate the blockade and the measures taken in the midst of the pandemic?” Colonel Mario Méndez Mayedo, head of the Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Aliens of the Ministry of the Interior, asked in the official program.
After these words, with which the Cuban regime disregards the fate of Cubans, the journalist Jose Raul Gallegoconsidered from Twitter: “This, said by a high-ranking official of the institution who has just murdered eight Cubans who were fleeing the country, sounds like a threat.”
“How many more dead do we need?” he said she in @mesaredondacuba the 1st colonel of @minint_cuba Mario Mendez Mayedo.

In the Round table this November 1, a few days after the death of several Cubans from the shipwreck in Bahía Honda, Lieutenant Colonel Imandra Oceguera, department head of the Directorate of Border Guard Troops of the MININT, insisted that many times Cubans try to leave the country in vessels “that do not meet the minimum conditions for navigation or for the protection of human life at sea”, and “do not know the elementary rules of navigation”.
“They also lack means of rescue and communications or signaling, elements that make crossings more risky and minimize the chances of surviving in the event of an accident,” he added.
The head also highlighted that those who are dedicated to human trafficking “try to collide the surface units of the border troops, throw objects, tanks.”
The United States “should condemn these statements. If they do not do so, they would be tacitly acknowledging their support for the violence used by the Cuban regime against its citizens who try to emigrate, now with the justification of defending the borders of the United States.” declared the activist Salomé García Bacallao after the broadcast of the official program.
.@POTUS, @StateDept Y @USEmbCuba They should condemn these statements. If they don’t, they would be tacitly acknowledging their support for the violence used by the Cuban regime against its citizens who try to emigrate, now with the justification of defending US borders.

It is worth noting that the shipwreck that occurred last Saturday in Bahía Honda was due to the collision of a Cuban border guard boat against the migrants’ boat.
Although the regime indicated in an official note that it was a collision, and blamed the United States government “for encouraging illegal departures from the Island,” people close to the Cubans who were on the boat have declared that it was rammed with all intent by border guards.
Seven people have died so far due to the sinking: Elizabeth Meizoso (2 years old), Indira Serrano Cala, Nathali Acosta Lemus, Aimara Meizoso León, Omar Reyes Valdés and Israel Gómez. While another remains missing.
This sinister is reminiscent of others perpetrated by the regime, such as the sinking of the tug “March 13”in which 72 people were on board, of whom 41 lost their lives, including eleven children.
