Regime takes over the mayors of Yalí, El Cuá, Murra and El Almendro

In a coordinated operation, the National Police accompanied by Ortega paramilitaries took over by force this Monday, July 4, the facilities of the mayors of San Sebastián de Yalí and El Cuá, in Jinotega; Murra, in Nueva Segovia; and El Almendro, in Río San Juan. The four municipalities were in the power of the canceled Citizens for Freedom (CxL) party.

The Ortega assault occurs 48 hours after the commune of the municipality of Santa María de Pantasma, in Jinotega, was illegally taken over, led by opposition member Oscar Gadea Tinoco, from CxL, who reported through a brief audio message that the justification of the Nicaraguan Institute of Development Municipal (INIFOM) to remove him was that his party does not have legal status.

The president of the CxL party, Kitty Monterrey, denounced on Twitter “the illegal seizure” of the mayors’ offices of San Sebastián de Yalí, El Cuá and El Almendro. Minutes later she confirmed about Murra.

The citizen organization Urnas Abiertas indicated to CONFIDENTIAL which has links in these four municipalities, and in the case of El Almendro they explained that anti-riot agents were stationed near the mayor’s office since the night of Sunday, July 3 and, hours later, at 2:00 am, they surrounded building.
