LIMA, Peru – Starting this Saturday, the Cuban regime suspended the sale of fuel in national currency (CUP) to the population, a product that will only be available for purchase in dollars (USD) and, in the case of diesel, not even through that payment method.
“Until conditions allow, fuel sales in CUP and the marketing of Diesel fuel in USD to the population are postponed,” the military corporation CIMEX reported in a statement.
According to the note, posted on Facebookthe Ticket platform will be implemented starting this Saturday in the service centers intended for the sale of fuel in USD for B90 and B94 gasoline, “with the objective of organizing the process and satisfying the greatest number of customers.”
Cubans will only be able to purchase up to 20 liters of fuel each time they register on the platform and will have 24 hours to consume their turn once notified.
“To the extent that fuel availability conditions allow, free commercialization will be gradually restored,” the note states.
The publication of CIMEX is part of the subsistence plan devised by the Castro dictatorship in the face of the worsening of the crisis on the Island, especially its energy aspect.
The day before, a group of ministers participated in the state propaganda program Round Table to announce, broadly speaking, the main actions that would allow the reorganization of resources and “guarantee the vitality of fundamental services” in the country.
According to official information, the available fuel will be concentrated in sectors considered priority. The Government assured that it will be used to protect essential services for the population and essential economic activities. Among the priorities mentioned are electricity generation – which is “fundamentally” supported by the national production of crude oil, accompanying gas and renewable sources –, water supply and basic health services.
In this last area, the authorities promised to maintain attention to medical emergencies, maternal and child health and the Cancer Program.
The official speech also stressed that, “to the extent possible”, activities aimed at obtaining foreign currency income, considered necessary for the economic and social development of the country, will be protected.
