Regime promises pensions to workers and families of Saratoga victims

MIAMI, United States. – The National Institute of Social Security (INASS) of Cuba announced this Friday that it will grant “provisional and definitive pensions” to “all affected workers and relatives of the victims of the accident at the Saratoga hotel, without distinction of right to pension.”

Virginia Marlén García Reyes, General Director of INASS, declared to the state Cuban News Agency (ACN) that the process will have the exceptionality of the law for the granting of extraordinary pensions, given that, on a regular basis, not all the relatives of the deceased generate the right to a pension, according to the official .

“We intend to protect all affected families without distinction, due to the importance and painful impact of the incident,” he said.

Likewise, it indicated that a survey was being carried out to determine the final pension based on the salary of each worker. “If all the information is gathered quickly, it is expected that by June those affected and their families will receive the final pension,” he said.

While this procedure is being carried out, the specialists of the INASS municipal branches will protect the nuclei immediately through the payment of a provisional pension, which consists of 100 percent of the salary of the affected worker, detailed the ACN.

Meanwhile, if the deceased belonged to another institution, that entity must present the documentation required for the pension process at the INASS municipal branch where the work center is located.

If the victim is a retired person, the relatives will provide the names, surnames and identity card number (if they have one), so that the municipal branch of INASS initiates the process of the provisional and definitive pension, as appropriate. .

The Saratoga Hotel tragedy

So far, the explosion has claimed the lives of 46, mostly hotel workers. According to most recent party of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), 99 people were injured, of which 13 are still hospitalized and 40 have been discharged.

This Thursday, the rescue team that was in the ruins of the hotel found the body of the last missing person, presumably a worker from the hotel facility who had not been found.

This was announced on Facebook by the state site Cubadebate: “On the afternoon of this May 12, the body of the last person disappeared as a result of the accident at the Saratoga hotel was found, apparently the waitress of the tourist facility itself.”

The explosion, which according to Alexis Acosta Silva, mayor of Old Havana, took place when a liquefied gas bullet was being fitted in the hotel, caused the entire facade of the building, located in front of the Capitol of Havana, to blow up. .

The fatalities were mainly hotel workers who were inside the building at the time, and people who were passing by. Most of the dead were Cubans, except for one spanish tourist that he was on vacation on the Island and was walking, at that moment, through one of the streets surrounding the building.

Among the deceased are also four children and a pregnant woman.

The Cuban government decreed this Thursday official duel for the tragedy.
