Roberto Ezequiel Mairena Sequeira31 years old, brother of the political prisoner Medardo Mairenawas buried this Sunday, June 26, without the presence of the peasant leader, who is unaware of the situation, despite the family’s insistence on communicating what happened to Medardo.
Family and friends gave the last goodbye to Ezequiel with a body mass present at the San Isidro Labrador church, in La Unión, Nueva Guinea, from where they left for the communal cemetery this afternoon, reports indicate.
The young man died on Saturday, June 25, after suffering a traffic accident in Chontales two days earlier. His brother Alfredo Mairena explained to Article 66 that the doctors at the Lenín Fonseca Hospital informed them that Ezequiel was brain dead.

“We, his relatives, have requested special permission for the Sandinista authorities to allow our brother Medardo Mairena Sequeira to attend his brother’s funeral, but we have not received a response,” they said after his death.
The family claimed that they were simply requesting what is established in article 69 of Law 473, the Penitentiary Regime Law, which establishes the obligation to provide extraordinary permits in the event of the death or serious illness of the parents, siblings or spouse of the detainees.
“The pain of our parents is indescribable given the unexpected loss of their son Robert Ezekiel and for the unjust imprisonment, for almost a year, of his other son Medard», indicated the Mairena Sequeira family.
