MIAMI, United States. – The Cuban regime prohibited the departure of the independent journalist Henry Constantín, director of Cuban Timewho had been invited to participate in the forum of the peoples of the IX Summit of the Americas.
“I have been invited to the IX Summit of the Americas, but the Cuban dictatorship prohibits me from attending: I am regulated, since 2019”, Constantin specified on his Facebook profilethis Monday.
“Three courageous women have also been forbidden: the influencer Saily González, the journalist María Matienzo and the activist Aimara Peña. They are very afraid that our voices will be heard in those halls, back in Los Angeles,” she added.
“But for that dictatorship of travel bans, I have two bad news: the first, that neither they nor their allies from Nicaragua and Venezuela have been invited either. The second, that this regulated journalist is going to continue raising his voice for Cuba, no matter how much travel outside Cuba they prohibit him. The only trip that really excites me with life is that of the freedom of Cuba. And that journey I am doing, ”he finished.
Last Sunday, the regime also prevented from leaving the country of the journalist from CubaNet Maria Matienzo Puerto.
The journalist made it clear that part of her role at the IX Summit of the Americas was to echo cases of violations of rights and freedoms in Cuba.
“One does not go on behalf of anyone. One is going to tell, from her own experience living in a dictatorship, what it is like to be part of a civil society. In my case, that I am an independent journalist, the people who have placed their trust to denounce cases of freedom violations also have in me a spokesperson for their situation.”
Last Friday, the Cuban State Security prevented the activist Aimara Peña from traveling to Havana, who this Sunday was supposed to board a plane bound for the United States to attend the IX Summit of the Americas.
