Regime orders to cancel legal status of three university associations

Extranjeros

The National Assembly began its legislative activity with the presentation of a decree initiative to cancel the legal personality of the Fundación Universidad de Mobile Latinoamérica Campus (FUMLAC), the Association for the Agricultural University of the Fifth Region and the Association for the University of Jinotega, alleging alleged non-compliance with the General Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities and in the same vein as what was done in the previous legislature.

The decree, presented by deputy Filiberto Rodríguez, indicates that the FUMLAC board —linked for years to Keiser University— “has been headless” since November 30, 2006 and —in addition— they would not have reported to the Ministry of the Interior (Migob ) its financial statements for the period 2004-2020 with its detailed breakdowns.

After learning of the legislative initiative, Keizer University clarified in a press release that FUMLAC “has been inactive for many years,” and that in 2013, when Ave Maria University became Keiser University, that institution “was independently registered.” Therefore, they emphasized: “There are no ties between FUMLAC and Keiser University.”

were never registered

Meanwhile, the Association for the Agricultural University of the Fifth Region and the Association for the University of Jinotega, the regime accuses them of having spent 28 years incurring in the violation of article 13 of Law 147, due to lack of registration and registration in the within 15 days from the date of publication of the decree granting legal personality.

“Based on the report presented by the Ministry of the Interior and sent to this power of the State, the entities related in this request for cancellation of legal personality have carried out their activities outside the law and acting against express law, which It implies that with their actions they have violated what is established in the different normative bodies that regulate them,” said Deputy Rodríguez.

According to the legislative agenda, the decree of cancellation of legal status will be discussed and approved in the plenary session of the National Assembly next Thursday, January 20.

61 organizations canceled

These are the first three non-profit organizations that will be outlawed by the newly established National Assembly. During the previous legislative period, some 58 organizations were canceled, since the sociopolitical crisis broke out in April 2018. With the three new ones, the figure will rise to 61 illegal organizations in Nicaragua.

The last organizations canceled were the Hispanic American University (Uhispam), the Nicaraguan Council of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Conimipyme) and the International Foundation for the Global Economic Challenge (Fideg).
