MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban regime issued an alert this Friday after the formation in the Caribbean Sea of the tropical depression ninewhich could hit Cuba hard in the coming days.
Through a statement, the National Civil Defense General Staff warned that “the forecast models indicate a high probability of organization and intensification of this hydrometeorological event during the approach to the western and central regions of the country, and may reach the category of hurricane”.
The government entity called on the authorities of each territory to mobilize and take the necessary assurances to face a possible disaster situation.
“Taking into account the evolution of this cyclonic organism, and the risk that it represents for our country, it is oriented to specify the assurances of the disaster risk reduction plans, paying attention to the protection of the population and the resources of the economy, the state and vitality of the emergency generator sets”, expands the information, disseminated by official media.
National Civil Defense Staff also emphasized “the collection of solid waste and the cleaning and unblocking of the drainage system in the areas of greatest risk.”
“The population is guided to stay informed through the media and the official profiles of social networks and to comply in a disciplined manner with the instructions given by the local authorities,” the note adds.
The National Hurricane Center of the United States called on the inhabitants of Cuba to be alert to the advance of tropical depression nine, formed at dawn this Friday in the Caribbean Sea.
“It is expected that during the next few hours it will gain in organization and intensity, so it could become Tropical Storm Hermine, and then a hurricane around Monday or Tuesday; reaching category 3 with winds of 115 mph and gusts of 140 mph on Wednesday morning,” said that institution in one of its bulletins today.
