The “House of Sovereignty” It was inaugurated by the Nicaraguan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Denis Moncada, together with the rector of the state National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN) and president of the National Council of Universities (CNU), Ramona Rodríguez.
“Today we are here to officially declare open to Nicaraguans the House of Sovereignty inspired by the thought of the chancellor of peace and dignity, Father Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, an example of the struggle for the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples, for a life fairer and more supportive”, Rodríguez said in his speech.
The rector indicated that the “House of Sovereignty is a space for study, training and research on our doctrine and practice of independence, sovereignty, dignity and national identity, as key factors for the integral development of our people.”
Rodríguez explained that the “House of Sovereignty” has a graphic and documentary archive for research, as well as a “study of the world and revolutionary thought.”
Among others, there are paintings of the Nicaraguan hero Augusto C. Sandino, the founder of Sandinism Carlos Fonseca Amador, the former commander of the revolution and former Minister of the Interior Tomás Borge, and the former guerrilla Camilo Ortega, brother of President Daniel Ortega.
On August 22, the Government of Ortega, through the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, handed over to the UNAN authorities, the building that the OAS occupied in Managua and that was expropriated by the Nicaraguan State.
Initially, the Government of Nicaragua had announced that it would build the “Museum of Infamy” there.
Property belonged to individuals
The property, located on the outskirts of Managua, had been in police custody since April 24, 2022, when the Ortega regime announced the expulsion from the country of the OAS delegation, which rented the place to the sisters Luz Marina and María Assistant Navarrete Guevara.
The building was declared of public utility by the Nicaraguan State. The members of the regional body unanimously condemned the occupation of the property in Managua at the time.
Nicaragua announced on April 24 of last year its decision to withdraw the credentials of its representatives to the OAS, as well as the closure of the offices of that organization in Managua.
This decision came three days after the Permanent Council of the OAS, with the absence of Nicaragua, approved suspending Russia, its ally, as a permanent observer, in punishment for the invasion of Ukraine and in a bid to further isolate Moscow. at the international level.
That day Nicaragua ratified its “invariable decision” to leave the OAS, a measure adopted since November 19, 2021 and which will take two years to become effective, that is, until November 2023.
This measure was adopted after the member countries of the OAS approved in the General Assembly held in November 2021 a resolution condemning Nicaragua for the elections that same month in which Ortega prevailed and which they considered that “they were not free, fair or transparent and do not have democratic legitimacy”.
