Regime cancels legal personality to Unival

The Daniel Ortega regime canceled this Wednesday, December 14, the legal status of the International University for the Integration of Latin America (Unival), which had offices in five departments of Nicaragua. The request was made by the National Council of Universities (CNU) and the National Council for Evaluation and Accreditation (CNEA).

Through ministerial agreement number 19-2022 published in La Gaceta, Official Gazette, they establish that the higher education center was canceled for not having “a consistent academic offer in terms of its minimum elements that the study plans required by the National Council of Evaluation and Accreditation. Unival’s international academic offer in various countries does not have the authorization of the CNU,” the letter states.

“From the virtual offer that Unival carries out outside the country, no information was obtained on student enrollment, records of graduates by careers, records of teachers who attend the different subjects, evidencing that there are omissions and inconsistencies of information before the country’s regulatory bodies” refers to the resolution.

The CNU also refers that the university failed to comply with Law 1088, Law for the Recognition of Titles and Academic Degrees of Higher Education and Higher Technical Education, in which it avoids the excessive charges made by some private universities for issuing titles to graduates, not they can exceed C$ 1,500 córdobas.

The university offered face-to-face, semi-face-to-face classes and online courses through a virtual interactive platform. In addition, it had international agreements with Ariton Alabama University, the Dr. Arturo Espín International Foundation and the Gamers in Action Program (GEA) in conjunction with TIGO Nicaragua.

Ortega, since February 2022, has canceled the legal status of more than a dozen private universities because they allegedly “failed to comply with their obligations under the laws that regulate Non-Profit Organizations in Nicaraguan territory, Law 147, Law 977 and its regulations”, by not reporting its financial statements for more than ten years according to fiscal periods with a detailed breakdown of income, expenses, verification balance, detail of donations (origin, provenance and final beneficiary).

By eliminating the universities, the CNU confiscated the higher education centers and created new universities with the aim of guaranteeing academic continuity. to the students affected by the measure imposed by the Sandinista steamroller.
