The regime canceled the legal personality of the University of the Autonomous Regions of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast (URACCAN) and the Bluefields Indian and Caribbean University (BICU) to become “Community and Intercultural Universities.”
According to what is stated in the ministerial agreement 07-2022-OSFL, published in La Gaceta, this Thursday, the change of “legal figure” will not affect the operation of the study houses and they will continue under the supervision of the National Council of Universities (CNU) , governing body dominated by the Ortega-Murillo regime.

Last July, the URACCAN University Council announced through a statement the change of leadership within the educational entity. According to the document, the rector Alta Hooker resigned from her position due to “health problems” so the Council proceeded to appoint new authorities, but on an interim basis, appointing Ilenia García Peralta instead of Hooker.
BICU has eight locations, five in the south: Bluefields, Laguna de Perlas, El Rama, Corn Island, and Paiwas, and three in the north, located in Bilwi, Waspam, and Bonanza.
For its part, URACCAN has a presence in the two Autonomous Regions of the Caribbean Coast with four university campuses located in Bilwi, Bluefields, Las Minas and Nueva Guinea, additionally it has extensions in Waspam, Rosita, Bonanza and Waslala. It also has four radio stations and a television channel.

This morning the dictatorship also outlawed 80 national Non-Governmental Organizations, among which were Christian entities, artisans and support for women in economic and health matters. In another section there were 20 more organizations for a total of 100 cancellations this Thursday, this block had associations from the United States, Spain, Germany, Honduras, Costa Rica, Norway, and Italy.
The Nicaraguan Human Rights Collective Never Again has denounced that “the purpose of these cancellations is to exercise absolute control and silence society; persecute those who think differently and establish a single thought, violating the human rights of the Nicaraguan people.
