After several months of abandonment, with the mountain grown up to a meter high, moldy walls, corroded gates and deteriorated infrastructure, the season has finally arrived for the country’s cemeteries in which the communes remember that they must maintain them.
Less than two weeks before All Souls’ Day, which is commemorated every November 2, more than a dozen mayors began to acquire materials and labor for the renovation of the holy fields.

A data analysis of Article 66carried out based on the contracts related to the renovation of cemeteries, disclosed by the country’s communes so far this month in the Electronic Administrative Contracting System (Siscae), showed that so far the communes have allocated 2,076,460.95 córdobas for painting, clean and improve part of the infrastructure of the holy fields.
Among the municipalities that until October 14 had disclosed and awarded purchases related to the renovation of cemeteries are the communes of San Ramón, Larreynaga, Telica, Tipitapa, Nandasmo, La Concepción, Morrito, Achuapa, Rivas, La Paz Centro, La Conquista and Tola.
Most municipalities allocated funds for paint purchases, gate improvements, electrical systems, brush clearing, walls and labor.
The commune that allocated the most funds to renovate cemeteries was that of Larreynaga, which through the minor contribution 61/2024, on “improvement of cemeteries in the municipality”, allocated 216,910 córdobas, more than 5,900 dollars, to renovate the walls of its ten cemeteries; one municipal and community.
The acquisition of the service was awarded to the bidder Mario Agapito Treminio Salgado, who will be in charge, according to the award, of renovating these cemeteries, especially walls and gates, which have lost color and have deteriorated in recent months, in addition to cleaning of the cemetery land.
Managua Mayor’s Office begins cemetery cleaning plan
Six other mayors’ offices disclosed this month in Siscae purchasing procedures related to the renovation of cemeteries. However, they kept them in “evaluation”, so they have not found details about the products or services purchased, the amounts they disbursed and to whom they were awarded.
Among the communes that reported purchases and, supposedly, because of what they maintain in Siscae, continue to “evaluate”, are: the communes of Mateare, Muelle de los Bueyes, Niquinohomo, Pueblo Nuevo, Jalapa and Villa Sandino.

The Mayor’s Office of Managua, through social networks, on October 15, also reported that it began “a special cleaning and renovation plan in all the cemeteries of the capital to guarantee the best conditions this November 2, on Memorial Day. the Faithful Departed.
In addition, he indicated that they have made progress in removing the weeds, which in the photos show that some were up to a meter high, pruning trees and that they will soon work on “patching” or repairing the access roads to these cemeteries and “signalling” of access roads.
It is worth mentioning that the capital commune is one of those that did not report in Siscae what it acquired for said plan or the amount it disbursed to carry out the renovation in the cemeteries of Managua.
