In the transitional periods of this reform, it indicates that until 2024 the base monthly salary registered with the IMSS is 16,777 pesos, which is why it indicates that this amount will be updated on January 1 of each year according to the estimated inflation of that year.
The reform, which is one of the 20 sent by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, recalls that from 1976 to 2016 Mexico’s minimum wage lost more than 70% of its purchasing power, which it claims ceased to be a measure to “protect the income” of the workers.
The constitutional modification was approved by all parliamentary groups; However, the opposition asked that this be functional, since they pointed out that the salary is not enough due to inflation, the disappearance of programs and growing insecurity.
PAN senator Marko Cortés pointed out that the PAN supports the salary increase being above inflation, but “what we would ask is that this really be made functional, that in the end people can have more in their purse to spend and reach him.”
