The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Ygnacio Camacho Hidalgoreported that he hopes to be summoned by the National Congress or by the Social Economic Council (CES), to socialize a proposal to modify the Organic Law of that body.
He indicated that among the initiatives to be proposed is the expansion the competence of the TSE so that it can present bills before Congress.
He referred that the TSE does not have that power like other State bodies, such is the case of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and the Judicial Power.
Camacho Hidalgo referred to the topic at the opening of the course-workshop: “Women’s Political and Electoral Rights”, organized through the TSE’s Gender Equality Division.

The objective of the conference was to raise awareness of the importance of women’s participation in politics and the mechanics of access to electoral justice.
The magistrate highlighted the female role in Dominican history.
“However, many of them have not been taken into account by posterity, which is why it is necessary to recover the historical memory and the participation of Dominican women in each of these historical events,” the magistrate emphasized.
He argued that in the Dominican war of independence the participation of women was fundamental, such as: Rosa Duarte, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Concepcion Bona, Josefa Perez and that it is necessary to continue recovering the historical memory of Dominican women, as a renewing and transforming action of Dominican society.
