The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) signed agreements in Florida and Canelones to repair sports facilities and build fields. In addition, the authorities inaugurated a local Red Cross in Canelones, made with contributions from that portfolio. “Despite the pandemic, the budget item was doubled,” said Minister José Luis Falero, during a visit to those departments on Friday the 23rd.
In the town of Santa Rosa, Falero, accompanied by the National Director of Architecture, Santiago Borsari, inaugurated the works carried out through a social agreement signed a year ago with the Uruguayan Red Cross.
For the new infrastructure, the MTOP contributed 2 million pesos. The project involved the construction of a multipurpose room, as well as finishes in the building and outdoor spaces. This is the only subsidiary of that entity in the department of Canelones, and will provide first aid and psychosocial support to the community. About 16 volunteers will work in the unit.
The social agreements designed by the ministry are, for some institutions, the only way to access resources to improve their headquarters, reported Falero. He added that, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government doubled the budget for this purpose, which allows it to respond to the needs and objectives of the organizations.
Later, Falero and Borsari signed, in the town of Casupá, Florida, an agreement with the El Inca club, in which sports, social and cultural activities are carried out. The ministry will contribute, in this case, with about 4,500,000 pesos, to build a multifunction field of synthetic grass and complete the completion of the bathrooms and perimeter fencing. As compensation, the club will provide the use of the facilities for six hours a week to the UTU and nine to schools and high schools in the area, for a period of 10 years.
In this activity, the Undersecretary of Social Development, Andrea Brugman, and the Mayor of Florida, Guillermo López, were also present.
Also, this Friday, the MTOP agreed with the Uruguayan Handball Federation a contribution of almost 8 million pesos, to finalize the first stage of a field of that discipline in the Roosevelt Park area, in the City of the Coast, in Canelones .
