The donation, announced days ago, was made effective today in a ceremony held in the Cuban capital, in which the deputy director of the Cuban Red Cross, Susana Llovet, thanked the gesture and highlighted other contributions from her Chinese counterparts.

According to Lovet, the Asian institution also supported the Cuban health system with intensive care beds, volumetric ventilators and medications, while providing the island’s firefighters with tents and personal and collective equipment, he says. a report from the agency Latin Press (PL).

For her part, the deputy minister of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Deborah Rivas, highlighted that the condolences of Chinese President Xi Jinping “were among the first to arrive in Cuba” after the fire broke out in the industrial zone of Matanzas.

In addition, he pointed out that the donation and the follow-up to the incident ratify “the close relations” between Beijing and the two countries and are a show of support that the Island “highly values,” adds the news release, which also collects messages of condolences and solidarity. of the Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Ma Hui.

This donation from the Chinese Red Cross adds to other donations already received or in process, as aid to Cuba after the tragedy in Matanzas, which has left a balance of more than one hundred injured, two identified dead and 14 missing, whose remains are being searched by a team of experts in the area of ​​the fire.

Among the known aids are those of the governments of Mexico and Venezuela, from where specialized forces and means arrived on the island to combat the flames, as well as other shipments collected by authorities and organizations from countries such as Spain, Argentina and Jamaica, as well as by Cubans residing abroad.
