The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) participated this Saturday in a humanitarian operation in the Colombian department of Cauca in which “facilitated the delivery of bodies of deceased people” in the framework of the armed conflict to the competent authorities for identification.

“We participate in this operation with our exclusively humanitarian role of preventing the disappearance and ensuring that the suffering of the family members is alleviated.”said Natalia Llanas, ICRC delegate in the area.
And he reminded the armed actors “the duty to respect and treat with dignity the bodies of deceased persons.”
“We insist that dignity does not end with death or the ties that unite people with their loved ones,” Llanas concluded.

With the delivery of the bodies –It was not specified how many there are– to the Colombian authorities “We seek to prevent the disappearance of these people and guarantee that, eventually, their bodies can be delivered to their families and buried according to their beliefs”The ICRC said in a statement released this Saturday.
The department of Cauca has been one of the scenarios where the most violence and clashes have been recorded in 2024with a worsening of the actions of the armed groups that operate in the area, especially dissidents of the FARC.
There are currently fighting between the Army and the FARC dissidents in several municipalities of this territory.
