Red alert for landslides in Huila affects 20 municipalities

The rains leave landslides and damage in 20 municipalities of Huila; authorities ask for extreme precautions.

The second rainy season keeps several municipalities in Huila on red alert due to landslides, sudden floods and damage to roads. More than 150 families were affected and care and search efforts continue.

The heavy rains that persist in the department of Huila leave 20 municipalities affected; only on the holiday weekend left nine municipalities with emergencies due to landslides 14 tertiary roads and two secondary roads.

Orlando Garzón, coordinator of disaster management in Huila, indicated that “these events are being attended to by the municipalities with local capacity, with the machinery of each of the territorial centers, including the municipalities of Palermo, Guadalupe, where seven landslides occurred affecting tertiary roads, also the municipalities of Tello, Palestine, in Argentina and Pitalitowhere these situations of landslides and damage to departmental roads have occurred.”

To date, There are 20 municipalities affected since the beginning of the second rainy season; The report indicates that there are 16 landslides, 2 flash floods, 4 tree falls and 13 events related to strong winds.

There is a red alert in Aipe, Baraya, Neiva, San Agustín, Yaguará, and the municipalities with orange alert are Acevedo, Agrado, Aipe, Altamira, Baraya, Campoalegre, Colombia, Elías, Gigante, Isnos, La Argentina, La Plata, Oporapa, Paicol, Palermo, Pital, Pitalito, Saladoblanco, Santa María, Suaza, Tarqui, Teruel, Tesalia, Timaná, Yaguará, Iquira.

The relief agencies are carrying out the corresponding support work in the search,” Garzón said.

In the department there is a risk of torrential floods or sudden storms, also of water tributaries, which is why it is indicated that all preventive and risk reduction measures must be adopted in each of the municipalities, to avoid, above all, the loss of life of people.
