The National Emergency Office (Onemi) reported on the activation of red alerts for the Metropolitan and Biobío regions, due to forest fires that are still in combat, it was decreed in the commune of San Pedro and in Chiguayante and Hualqui.
According to the information provided by the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF), a forest fire is reported
at kilometer 57 H-1, which has already consumed 5 hectares and is located near the Nonguén National Park, in the Biobío Region.
Considering the characteristics of this fire, the Biobío Regional Presidential Delegation, based on CONAF technical information and in coordination with the Onemi Regional Directorate, declares a Red Alert for the communes of Chiguayante and Hualqui, due to a forest fire, in force since today and “until fire conditions so warrant.”
“With this declaration of Red Alert, all the necessary and available resources will be mobilized, in additional support to what has already been deployed by CONAF, Firefighters and the National System for Prevention and Response to Disasters (SINAPRED). In this way, action will be taken to control the situation, given the extent and severity of the event,” said Onemi.
Likewise, a forest fire is reported in the San Pedro de Melipilla commune, in the San Enrique Hacienda, which has already devoured 40 hectares. The incident occurs close to populated sectors.
It should be noted that the flames of this latest forest fire spread from the commune of Santo Domingo, Valparaíso Region.
