Red alert decreed for the Araucanía Region due to simultaneous fires

During this day, the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) decreed a red alert for the Araucanía Region due to the spread of forest fires and the extreme temperatures that are affecting the area.

It should be noted that the accidents have been simultaneous in different parts of La Araucanía, even reaching some homes in the communes of Vilcún, Renaico, Lumaco and Angol. In particular, and according to the latest report from the Service, there are 70 fires in the region, 47 controlled and 14 in combat.

That is why, through a statement on Twitter, the agency ordered the evacuation of the El Almendro and Tolpan sector, in Renaico. In addition, the SAE emergency alert system was activated to disseminate the alert and the call to act calmly, abiding by the indications of the authority.

The director(s) of Senapred Araucanía, Catedrin Savaria, reported that “we have already affected housing in some sectors such as Vilcún, the Renaico sector and we are confirming that housing is affected in Lumaco.” It is important to mention that there would also be a house destroyed in the Angol commune.

In addition, Savaria pointed out that “we need to reinforce that families can follow the instructions of the authorities and attend to the evacuation processes.”
