In the event of hail, authorities have asked people to reduce risks, identify objects that could be damaged (stained glass, domes, windows) and protect them with blankets or cardboard to cushion the impact of hail, and protect or shelter pets and plants.
Other precautions he asked people to take into account were: not to cross puddles or water crossings; not to approach electricity poles or cables, avoid driving under bridges and flooded areas, as well as increasing the distance from other vehicles when driving and, if possible, not going out on the street.
In the morning, the SGIRPC reported that showers were expected, but the forecast evolved to heavy rain with hail and also thunderstorms in 11 municipalities: Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Cuajimalpa, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Tlalpan, Venustiano Carranza and Xochimilco.
The municipalities of the State of Mexico affected by the heavy rain are: Atlacomulco, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Naucalpan de Juárez, Ixtapan de la Sal, Toluca, Ecatepec, Valle de Bravo and Tlalnepantla.
Meanwhile, the National Water Commission (Conagua) warned that much of the country will experience rain, due to the proximity of a new cold front that approached the northwest of the Mexican Republic, the subtropical jet stream, low pressure channels extending over different regions of the country, the entry of humidity from both oceans and instability at high levels of the atmosphere.
Heavy rains (75 to 150 mm) were forecast in 30 states: San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Oaxaca and Chiapas. Heavy rains with very heavy rainfall (50 to 75 mm) were forecast in Tamaulipas, Guanajuato, Querétaro, State of Mexico, Michoacán, Guerrero, Morelos, Puebla, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán.
Showers with heavy rains (25 to 50 mm) are also expected in Nuevo León, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Colima, Mexico City, Tlaxcala and Quintana Roo and the presence of intervals of showers (5 to 25 mm) in Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango and Nayarit, while isolated showers (0.1 to 5 mm) are expected in Baja California.
The rains may be accompanied by electrical discharges, strong gusts of wind and hail, Conagua announced.
