State universities and federal teaching institutions in the state of Rio de Janeiro launched today (19) the Forum of State Public Universities and Federal Teaching Institutions. Gathered in the center of the capital, the deans drew attention to the lack of resources to maintain the institutions and the need for articulation to propose improvements for education.
“Our main objective is to be an aggregator group of propositions, partnerships, policies for the development and strengthening of education in the state of Rio de Janeiro”, said the president of the Forum, Roberto Rodrigues, dean of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. January (UFRJ).
According to Rodrigues, the state of Rio is notable for having a series of public institutions. There are four federal universities: UFRRJ, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Federal Fluminense University (UFF) and Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Unirio); and two state: University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj) and State University of Northern Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (Uenf).
In addition to these institutions, the state has two federal institutes: Federal Center for Technological Education Celso Suckow da Fonseca (Cefet RJ) and Colégio Pedro II.
“We have federal and state universities, institutes, covering practically the entire state of Rio de Janeiro. A better articulation of these institutions will allow us to generate better and more aggregating proposals for both the state and the municipalities”, stated Rodrigues.
According to Rodrigues, all these institutions have become even closer because of the pandemic and, recently, because of budget cuts in education. Although part of the amounts that were blocked has been released, it is still not enough to honor commitments assumed and plan investments in the area, say the rectors.
The forum should also promote dialogue with basic education, since universities are also responsible for teacher training. One of the goals is to help reduce the learning deficit caused by the pandemic.
THE Brazil Agency sought the Ministry of Education (MEC) and awaits a decision.
