Father Arturo Peraza, rector of UCAB, believes that the State left aside one of its main responsibilities, which is the education of Venezuelans. He lamented the crisis in all areas suffered by educators throughout the country due to low salaries and deterioration in study centers
The rector of the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB), Arturo Peraza SJ, warned about the crisis that education is experiencing in Venezuela, stating that it is currently going through “one of its most difficult moments”, due to various factors such as the low income of teachers and the resignation of many of them from their jobs. In addition, he indicated that this situation demotivates those who wish to train as educators.
Peraza, in an interview granted to Radio Faith and JoyHe said that only in 2022 a thousand new educators graduated, which in his opinion is an “abysmal” figure because the most affected will be the popular sectors because private education will try to absorb the few teachers who leave the academy and leave the underprivileged deprived of education.
“There will be a very serious impact on the rights of the poor and this worries me a lot because this will generate differences that are difficult to bridge,” he said.
Similarly, the rector of UCAB expressed his concern about the infrastructure of public schools and universities throughout the country which, in his opinion, are in “deplorable” conditions and thus decided to continue giving classes, some virtual, because they did not They have how to fill out the teacher template.

He assured that private universities do not indicate or give a level of privilege, since in the past public higher education houses set the example and trained good professionals at the same level as the Catholic one.
For Father Arturo Peraza, the State abandoned one of its main tasks, which is education, and warned that private universities do not have the capacity to absorb the large number of students in the country, for which reason he insisted that this it is a responsibility of the State and he said that, although institutions such as UCAB have scholarship programs and carry out fundraising activities, their quota is limited because “sustainability paths must be achieved. Something is done with that, but not with a significant mass of students.”
“The lack of teachers, poorly paid teachers, infrastructure problems, delays in the curriculum, everything is behind schedule. Today our boys have almost no idea of reading or writing and today there is talk of artificial intelligence, ”she warned.

On the other hand, he considers that Artificial Intelligence can be helpful for education, although the challenge is to use this tool in a pedagogical way and allow the teaching-learning process to take place in students. That is, that it is used to search for information and help students to solve things, but always with a limit.
“Let’s leave our fears behind and start to find out what opportunities there are with this. Let’s learn that there are tools and also opportunities,” she expressed.
In this sense, the rector of UCAB thinks that education in Venezuela must be rethought in its entirety to bring together both technology and a good quality of life for teachers.
“The teacher must be given the necessary tools. We return to the subject of programming or artificial intelligence. The teacher of the 20th century is no longer useful to you, the teacher must be channeled into the 21st century. I think that this is the key to the entire alliance system,” said Father Arturo Peraza.
