Recommendations for the application of the fourth dose against Covid-19 will be announced in the coming days

Dr. Eduardo Ortega Barría, who is a scientific researcher and secretary general of Senacyt, highlighted this Monday on Radio Panama that a slight rebound in Covid-19 cases has been recorded after the Holy Week activities.

He stressed that we have only had four pandemic waves, which he considered positive. “We must remember that the pandemic is not over, Panama has it under control today. We have had quite an exemplary handling of the pandemic when you compare it with other countries of equal or better socioeconomic status,” he specified.

The doctor announced that in the coming days, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and President Laurentino Cortizo will make a series of recommendations on the application of the fourth dose, when we would use it and by whom. “This fourth dose is on the table, which would be the second booster. In the United States they are talking about a fifth dose, which we are not considering in Panama yet,” he remarked.

Ortega indicated that there are currently some 82 hospitalizations due to Covid-19 in the country and 48% of the population has a booster dose.
