Thousands of devout Catholics celebrated this Monday (27), in Belém, another edition of the Recíriothe last day of religious events that marks the end of the Nazarene Festival in 2025. The celebration began with a mass in Praça do Santuário, followed by the Pilgrimage of Recírio, the 14th procession of the Festivity, which officially ended the 15 days of tributes to Our Lady of Nazareth.
After the pilgrimage, the faithful watched the original image of Nazinha, as she is affectionately called, rise to the Glory of the Main Altar of the Basilica Sanctuary, where it remains until the beginning of the next festival, in 2026. The Recírio procession has been held since 1859, keeping a tradition of more than 160 years alive. The new metropolitan archbishop of Belém, Dom Júlio Endi Akamine, participated for the first time in the event, which this year received at least 2.5 million people on the second Sunday of October (12), the date of the main procession.
“It’s one thing when we hear people’s testimonies, it’s another when we personally participate in the Círio de Nazaré. I was very impacted by this sharing of people who reported the experience. So, everywhere we went, you could see it on people’s faces. Even though it passed very quickly, this overflow was evident. Overflow of people, overflow of devotion to Our Lady, of love for Our Lady of Nazaré”, he reports.
This year, approximately 100,000 tourists were in Belém to participate in the Círio de Nazaré, the biggest Catholic festival in the country. On October 12th, around 2.5 million pilgrims They participated in the main Círio procession, covering a distance of 52.3 kilometers. In addition to Belém – which hosts the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) in November – the metropolitan cities of Ananindeua and Marituba also welcomed the faithful in what is considered the largest Catholic procession in the country.
Considered a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), the Círio de Nazaré is a festival that, in addition to showing the devotion of the people of Pará, moves the local economy, attracting tourists and boosting sectors such as hotels, transport, food and commerce.
