In view of the discussion and approval of the Federation Expenditure Budget (PEF) 2026, which will be held this week in San Lázaro, 17 committees of the Chamber of Deputies requested reallocations of almost 110 billion pesos (mp), equivalent to one percent of the total amount of public spending proposed by the Executive for next year.
Although all House committees cast a positive vote regarding the PEF sent to Congress by President Claudia Sheinbaum, some asked for increases in funds to address sectors as diverse as migration, rural development, human rights, livestock and social security, among others.
One of the legislative study groups that requested a larger amount was Communications and Transportation, which presented a request to increase resources for 36,584.3 million, of which the amount would be reduced to 36,354 million pesos, “since the difference does not present valid financing sources,” is stated in the PEF opinion.
Another commission that made a similar request was the Rural, Agricultural and Food Self-Sufficiency Development and Conservation Commission, which requested an increase for 35,972 million pesos, while the Livestock Commission requested 30,534.3 million; that of National Defense, 10 thousand 306.9 million, and that of Citizen Security, 5 thousand 494 million.
Although some commissions do not mention the objective for which they request more resources, there are others that do specify it. This is the case of the Environment and Natural Resources, which requested an extra 6,969 million to strengthen the national commissions for Protected Natural Areas and Forestry, as well as the Mexican Institute of Water Technology and the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change.
The Social Security Department, for its part, made two requests for reallocation: one, for 7,658.5 million for Branch 19, “Contributions to social security,” and another for 3,459 million for Branch 51, corresponding to the “Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers.”
Likewise, there are commissions that requested relatively smaller fund increases compared to others. Among them we can mention the Human Rights Commission, which asked to reallocate 10 million pesos, from personal services and institutional operating expenses, to the Executive Commission for Attention to Victims.
In that same group are the requests from Tourism, 465 million pesos; Immigration Affairs, 300 million; Foreign Relations, 300 Economy, trade and competitiveness 263.6; Justice, 225 Mobility, 158, and Social Economy and Promotion of Cooperatives, 600 thousand pesos.
The PEF opinion specifies that budget expansions will be subject to the availability of resources and the guidelines of the Budget and Public Accounts Commission. According to the president of the Political Coordination Board, Ricardo Monreal (Morena), part of the reallocations will be made to education, infrastructure, culture and the environment.
