“For four years they have been operating in an illegally built apartment. (…) The authorities are not there to protect us, we did all the work with a pro bono lawyer, there were hours of going back to court, writing and constantly justifying the mayor’s office for not doing their job. With Néstor Núñez they told us that they could not close because they did not have stamps, ”he says.
“crooked work” is another citizen initiative, this one was launched by the organizations Suma Urbana and Ruta Cívica. The platform has received 3,365 reports on alleged irregularities and violations of urban regulations in the city that have been denounced, suspended, closed, terminated or are on trial; the complaints cover almost all the mayoralties.
Josefina MacGregor, representative of Suma Urbana, points out that at the beginning of Claudia Sheinbaum’s government, works carried out with Action Polygons granted irregularly in the administration of Miguel Ángel Mancera did stop, however, the irregular works persist in the current administration.
“We continue to see a lax Seduvi in the granting of Cuzus (Unique Certificate of Land Use Zoning), without answering the requests for transparency, granting Cuzus out of the norm, allowing polygons where it could not, different mayors tolerating irregular works where they suspend but they do not close, an Administrative Verification Institute that verifies but does not see the work.
“We are running into the same thing, a tremendously corrupt city, in favor of those who break the law and with hard work from residents of all communities and a city that is increasingly difficult to live in,” he says.
