The ruling party valued the arrest of the leader of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM), Hector Llaitul, which occurred this Wednesday in Cañete, Biobío region, after an order from the Prosecutor’s Office. In this regard, they indicated that “it is a powerful signal” and called for avoiding political gains.
Llaitul’s arrest occurred within the framework of an investigation by the Ministry of the Public, which began in 2020 after the then Government filed a complaint under the State Security Law.

Regarding the detention, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raul Soto (PPD), expressed that “the attitude that the Government has taken lately has contributed a lot, especially the extension of the 2020 lawsuit regarding the State Security Law”
“This is a powerful, robust signal for the country that it is intolerable in a democracy for any person to take credit for criminal acts, to claim responsibility for violence, to feel free to threaten the State,” he added.
For his part, the general secretary of the Socialist Party, Camilo Escalonaindicated that, before the arrest of Llaitul, “we abide by the rules of the rule of law (…) no sector should try to take advantage, neither small nor large, of this fact.”
“Here there is an action of the judicial system and consequently it would be absurd for us to try to find an impact on the result of September 4 (the date on which the plebiscite will be held),” added Escalona.
Meanwhile, the general secretary of the PC, Lautaro Carmonacommented that “what had been warned about from the point of view of court orders is operating, it had been a while since Llaitul had an arrest warrant, now it will be the courts that will have to rule on the merits.”
The president of the Social Green Regionalist Federation (FRVS), Flavia Torrealba, he pointed out: “we hope that their human rights are fully observed and guaranteed in this process, and we naturally trust in the courts of justice”. He added that “we hope that this arrest does not affect the climate of the election.”
