The councilors who were re-elected in the 2024 elections represent a total of 40.79% of the successful candidacies in the search for a place in the municipal councils.
The results of the investigation released by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) show that, of the 58,400 councilors elected by Brazilians, 23,823 already had a mandate and will start another four years in 2025.
The information was systematized by the technology team at Brazilian Communication Company (EBC) based on official TSE data. The numbers can still be changed by court decisions in applications that are sub-judice
The number of re-elected councilors represents 58.39% of those who sought re-election. According to the TSE, while these 23 thousand managed to extend their mandates, 16,976 (41.61%) sought re-election and were unable to do so.
The success rate in re-election was higher among candidates from municipalities in Rio Grande do Norte, where 70.05% of the 1,249 councilors who tried to be re-elected achieved another four years in office.
Acre had the lowest percentage, with 45.18% successful candidacies which, in absolute numbers, is 61 councilors re-elected among 135 who tried to be re-elected.
