RD registers more than 4.7 formal and informal jobs

During the year 2022, the dominican economy It reached a total employment of 4.77 million formal and informal workers, according to data from the Continuous National Workforce Survey (ENCFT).

The data disclosed by the central bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), explain that with this total occupancy the level evidenced in the same quarter of 2019 is exceeded, that is, the total observed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BCRD adds that this result is equivalent to about 92,642 new jobs net at the end of 2022 compared to 2021, for a year-on-year variation of 2.0%.

“It is important to point out that the generation of new Job positions was concentrated in the formal occupation, when an increase of 130,561 was verified in said category. While the number of informally employed fell by 37,919 workers”, indicates the BCRD.

It details that, given this behavior, the percentage of informality, that is, the proportion of employed persons who do not have access to the benefits of the social Security via its occupation, it decreased by 1.9 percentage points, going from 58.1% in October-December 2021 to 56.2% in the same quarter of 2022.

On the other hand, the BCRD adds that the open vacancy rate, which is defined as the percentage of unemployed people who are actively looking for jobcontracted by 3.2 percentage points, from the 8.0% registered in January-March 2021 to 4.8% in October-December 2022, and by 2.3 percentage points when compared to the figure of 7.1% reported in the same quarter of 2021.

TSS contributors

According to the “Statistical Bulletin of the Contributory Regime of the Dominican Social Security System (SDSS)”, as of the month of November of the year 2022 2,237,967 workers are contributing to the Dominican Social Security System for a total of 2,329,004 contributions and an average contributionable salary of 30,142.31 pesos.

It is important to note that for the calculation of the quotable wage bill and of the salary averages, only quotable salaries are taken into account up to the maximum contribution limit equivalent to twenty (20) minimum quotable salaries, which is an average of the minimum salaries of the non-sectorized private sector established by the National Committee of Salaries and in attention to Article 57 of Law 87-01”, is explained in the bulletin.

Explain that the contributing workers and number of contributions by sex, men represent 53.51% of SDSS contributions, while women appear with 46.49%.

On average, women have a average quoted salary of 30,470.28 pesos, higher than that of men (29,856.75 pesos).
