Dominican Republic assumed the Pro Tempore presidency of the Central American Tourism Council (CCT) and of Board of Directors of the Central American Tourism Promotion Agency (CATA)within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2026in Madrid, Spain.
The leadership, which will last between January and June 2026, was received by the Vice Minister of Tourism of Dominican Republic, Carlos Peguerowho will be in charge of the political coordination and the definition of strategic guidelines for the positioning of the multi-destination Central America–Dominican Republicreports the Spanish media ABC World.
He transfer of the presidency was formalized during a symbolic act that included the participation of Nicole SolanoDeputy Minister of Tourism of Belize, and Gloria De LeonMinister of Tourism of Panama and president of the Central American Tourism Council.
During his speech, the Vice Minister Peguero stressed that Dominican Republic take on this challenge with a integrative vision and one clear regional vocation.
“Central America and Dominican Republic represent a complementary tourist proposalwith cultural diversity, natural wealth, connectivity and hospitality. United, we can project ourselves with greater strength and competitiveness in international markets,” he stated.
DR, one of the best destinations
The media points out that, with more than 11.6 million international visitors registered in the last year, Dominican Republic comes to this presidency as one of the most consolidated destinations in the Caribbean, contributing experience in tourism management, institutional capacity and leadership in international promotion.

It stands out that one of the first milestones of this new stage was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between CATA and Amadeusaimed at strengthening the use of data, tourist intelligence and making strategic decisions based on market information.
