Rausseo rules out participation in primaries and points directly to the presidential ones

According to the letter signed by the political director of Rausseo’s team, Agustín Berríos, the candidate “listened” to the demands of the citizens who support his candidacy and understood that he should stay away from political structures and traditional parties.

The campaign team of presidential candidate Benjamín Rausseo published a release in which they report the decision to decline participation in the opposition primaries to be held on October 22, whose registration process is underway and will end this Saturday, June 24.

Faced with the expectation that he would formalize his registration in the primaries and the rumors that he would withdraw from the presidential race, the statement presents a third option: direct participation in the 2024 presidential elections, without previously measuring himself against the opposition to elect a unitary candidate who faces the piece of chavismo.

According to the letter signed by the team’s political director, Agustín Berríos, Rausseo “listened” to the demands of the citizens who support his candidacy and understood that he should stay away from political structures and traditional parties.

“The candidate Benjamín Rausseo has listened to the demand of thousands of people throughout Venezuela, especially in popular sectors, who insist that, being faithful to his independent status and a career without a political past, it is not up to him to participate in a Primary”, indicates the document.

In this sense, he considers that it is up to him to respect his figure as an independent candidate and participate directly in the general elections “detached from the opposing political platforms of the current situation.”

The statement underlines that Rausseo made this decision after listening, not only to “thousands of people throughout Venezuela”, but also the opinion of his regional and national teams.

“The independent candidate Benjamín Rausseo ratifies his willingness to fight for the Presidency of the Republic in the 2024 election with an unequivocal message of reconciliation and reunion among all Venezuelans,” he concluded.

In this way, the 2024 presidential contest could face Nicolás Maduro, the opposition candidate elected as a result of the primaries, and Benjamín Rausseo as the main protagonists, in addition to other possible actors who postulate their candidacies outside the opposition partisan structure.
