CDMX, Mexico. – According to the official encyclopedia of the Cuban dictatorship, securedformer State Security agent Raúl Antonio Capote “andHe is a Cuban writer, historian, researcher and journalist. He is a teacher of the Enrique José Varona Pedagogical Universityand also a member of the Union of Historians of Cuba. He was an agent of the State Security with the alias ‘agent Pablo’”.
Since 2003, when he started teaching at the University of Pedagogical Sciences Enrique José Varonawas hired by an agent of the Central Intelligence Agency (INC) and received an “extremely high salary” from the US State Department.
“Among other tasks, he had the mission of turning young Cuban university students into enemies of the Revolution. In 2011 ―after eight years of working as a double agent― he revealed the US plan and the names of the Cuban intellectuals and professors who were CIA agents who participated in his contract.

He is the author of the blog The adversarya blog that denounces the alleged plans of the United States Government against the island’s regime.
However, reviewing the published interviews of this agent, we could not find “the very high salary” received by the CIA, nor the name of the alleged Cuban intellectuals and professors who were CIA agents. What was made public was the entire political process against the Cuban activists convicted during the Black Spring 2003with sentences of up to 28 years in prison, and the forced expatriation of most of them to Spain, eight years later.
The spy Antonio Capote was a key witness during the farce trials of the 75 opponents and journalists convicted by the regime. Most of those convicted had signed and helped collect the more than 24,000 signatures that supported the Varela Project in 2002.
Capote is a maker of propaganda for the Cuban regime and a maker of false news. The defamation against the Cuban opponents in the media hijacked by the single party continues to operate with total impunity. According to the current Criminal Code, Capote would have to be in jail for the crimes of defamation, perjury and slander, serving between one and three years in prison. But the Cuban judicial system does not sanction the abuses by the authorities and State Security agents against the civil and political rights of citizens.
Attacks on liberal institutions and laws in Latin America
In his article “He lawfare: political crime in the name of the law”, published in “Razones de Cuba”, on December 13, 2022, the author victimizes corrupt politicians, or breakers of liberal institutions, who have been prosecuted according to the laws in force in their respective countries. Here are some examples:
“The unjust sentence of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to six years in prison and perpetual disqualification from holding public office” (…). “ANDPresident Pedro Castillo was removed and arrested, while the Prosecutor’s Office carried out operations in the Government Palace to gather evidence against him, accused of rebellion and conspiracy, after declaring a state of emergency in the country” (…). “In both cases, these are operations of lawfare in addition to those carried out against Rafael Correa, Jorge Glas, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Dilma Rousseff, Evo Morales, Fernando Lugo, etc.”
According to agent Capote, these Latin American politicians, who from power have violated the institutional framework or anti-corruption laws in their own countries, are innocent because of their political affiliation. In other words, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner does not diverted 3.2 million dollars for his benefit and that of his collaborators while he held the presidency of Argentina; Pedro Castillo not tried to dilute and close the Peruvian Congress; Rafael Correa and Jorge Glas were not sentenced by an Ecuadorian court for having bribed companies between 2012 and 2016 to pay for his political party; Lula Da Silva, apparently, did not finance the Mariel Special Development Zone with public money through the construction company Odebrecht, which justified investment in Cuban infrastructure “for ideological reasons”. The amount of said financing amounted to 957 million dollars, which came out of the Brazilian public treasury. Evo Morales did not try to violate the Constitution or the popular referendum that rejected his re-election in 2016.
All these facts are presented by the agent Antonio Capote as a political conspiracy against leftist governments. So are, according to him, the complaints against the dictatorships of Nicaragua and Venezuela.
The agent defines the alleged conspiracy as lawfare, or “war of laws”. However, he is not interested in applying the same concept to the Cuban reality.
Since 2020, Capote has dedicated himself to promoting media lynching against the San Isidro Movement, the 27N movement and the social outbreak of July 2021 (11J)in the official media Granma and cubadebate. These peaceful civil movements have been criminalized under the argument of an alleged association with the CIA, or of obtaining US funding to destabilize the dictatorship.
If there were a State of law and respect for civil and political guarantees in Cuba, Raúl Antonio Capote would be tried and imprisoned by the same Latin American institutions and laws that safeguard citizen rights and attack the corruption of power elites.
Being anti-American and an admirer of the dictator Fidel Castro does not exempt him from answering for his violation of the honor and rights of Cuban opponents.
