The Cuban guy Randy Arozarenaleft fielder for the Tampa Bay Rayssaid this Friday that representing Mexico in the past World Classic has helped him stand out this season with a batting percentage of .311, the third best in the Major League Baseball American League (MLB).
“I was able to run in the classic what in the offseason I thought. Which pitches were hurting me, which count I can swing on and which one I can’t. I have transferred this to the 2023 season to help in this great start of the team, ”he replied to the efe in a virtual press conference organized for the Mexican media.
In the Classic, Arozarena was the offensive spark plug for Mexico, leading the tournament in doubles with six and integrating the ideal ninth. In this conversation, he revealed that in the offseason he had committed to physical work and strengthened his mental part, other of the secrets that have allowed him to lead the attack of Tampa Bay, which leads the classification of the East division of the America League with 37 wins and 15 losses, three games above the second seed, the Baltimore Orioles.
“What has helped me is following a routine and the mental part. I’ve improved because I’ve learned how the business is run and how they pitch me, something I didn’t do before. That has helped me calm down at the plate and consistently do a routine,” added the player who is living his fifth year in the best baseball in the world.
Arozarena, who after leaving Cuba took refuge in Mexico until signing in 2016 with the Saint Louis Cardinals of Las Mayores, thanked the support that Mexican fans give him in MLB stadiums.
“The support I feel and the Mexicans have given me is incredible. Every time I go out to a new field, all the Mexicans support me and shout, they give me happiness. I want to feel that support when I return to Mexico. It feels nice to be recognized for the person I am,” said the 2021 American League rookie of the year winner.
The Cuban affirmed that despite the fact that his performance in the Classic mediated his career in the world, but especially in Mexico, he remains humble so as not to lose ground and continue to stand out on the diamond.
“Randy is always going to be Randy in every way. Success is momentary, I learned values since I was a child. What I do I do from the heart. When I do it with my heart, I do it naturally and it is the success that I have ”, he declared.
