The young opponent Randall Vivas Barbosa and his wife, Yaritza Brenesdetained on Saturday, November 5 —prior to the municipal votes— in the municipality of Nindirí, in Masaya, are still detained in the Masaya police station, as reported by relatives of the citizen.
In a video posted on social media It is observed that some five policemen managed to subdue Yaritza Brenes to take her prisoner; while a group of at least ten officers surround her and prevent her relatives from trying to help her.

Brenes complained to the police officers about the siege on her family, while trying to prevent the officers from illegally taking her husband’s motorcycle from her. Despite the effort, the regime’s operators arbitrarily appropriated the means of transport.
Another source revealed that the citizen was sheltered due to the constant siege and threats, but when he saw that the police officers attacked his wife and family, he left the place. “He tried to flee, but he was caught and they took him prisoner along with his wife,” they said.
Nephew of the Ortega mayor of Nindirí
A relative of Vivas Barbosa reported on condition of anonymity that Randall Vivas is the nephew of the Sandinista mayor of the municipality of Nindirí, Clarissa Vivas Castellón, whom the Ortega dictatorship ratified in office for another five-year term.
According to the informant, the young man’s father, identified as Roger Vivas Castellonis the mayor’s brother, and it was known that he is a faithful follower of the Sandinista Front.
«Randall is the nephew of the mayor of Nindirí, but he has no (close) relationship with her because he is an opponent and it is obvious that his family on the father’s side supports the government. Hopefully he will be released soon because he has not committed any crime,” the source said.
In addition, they indicate that despite being an opponent of Ortega’s dictatorial policies, Randall Vivas and his wife had decided to “stay away from political opinions” to avoid further reprisals, however, the regime attacked them.
More arrests
As happened in 2021 with the presidential elections, the Ortega regime lashed out at opponents, raiding their homes and then taking them away without a court order.
On November 5, the Police arrested the opponent Karla Vegaoriginally from the municipality of El Rosario, in the department of Carazo, as reported by her relatives on social networks.

According to reports, at least 10 agents from the Directorate of Special Police Operations (DOEP) violently entered Vega’s home to take her away without a court order.
The Urnas Abiertas citizen observatory reportedly denounced the increase in “political violence on the eve of the election at the hands of police officers through arrests, raids, siege and harassment in different parts of Nicaragua.” They reported at least 18 arbitrary arrests.
