Some 780 cattle have been recovered so far this year, thanks to the preventive and operational actions carried out at the national level by the authorities and, given the increase in livestock thefts, the National Police met with the West Panama Livestock Association.
According to the director of the National Police, General Director John Dornheim, the objective of this meeting is to strengthen teamwork between livestock producers and authorities.
Dorheim highlighted the creation of the Livestock Theft Division in the Judicial Investigation Directorate, which will deal exclusively with these crimes, providing effectiveness and efficiency to the investigations.
“We have strengthened the control posts in Guabalá and in Divisa with specialized units that can identify this crime,” said the Director General.
Donatilo Tejada, president of the Western Panama Cattlemen’s Association, participated in this meeting, pointing out the importance of joining forces with the police to prevent these crimes.
The Director of the Police highlighted the joint work with the Public Ministry to continue counteracting these criminal activities that leave great losses to the livestock sector.
The authorities provided some recommendations, among which it was highlighted, being cautious during the purchase and sale proposals, the improvement of the perimeter fences of the farms and the continuous supervision of the animals.
