On July 29, the government presented the preliminary draft Law for the reform of social security called: “Integrated Pension System”, consists of 307, and establishes that the current retirement regime will be fully applicable to those who have configured retirement cause or set it up until December 31, 2026.
Among the changes, it is proposed that people with 30 or more years of computed service, regardless of their retirement affiliation, will configure retirement cause upon reaching normal age as follows: for those born in 1967, a retirement age of 61 years, born in 1968 they will require 62 years, in 1969 they must be 63 years old and those born in 1970 reach 64 years. From then on, the required age will be 65 years.
No income and no protection
In the last few hours, the director of the BPS representing the workers, Ramón Ruíz, warned that in the countries where the retirement age was increased, unemployment grew and the vast majority of workers were left without income and without social protection.
On the other hand, he stated that President Luis Lacalle Pou promised not to raise the retirement age for those who are currently working. Instead, he spoke of incentives for people who can, to retire later and better. “I agree with this proposal, because forcing all workers to work five more years and, furthermore, for less retirement, is nonsense.”
He spoke in defense of a fairer, universal and supportive social security.
