The environmental architect and former deputy mayor of the capital district, Raisa Banfield, spoke earlier about the urban development in our country and the constant floods, indicating that we have devastated the natural sponges that we have on the coast, such as mangroves and wetlands.

“These fillings prevent the water from being absorbed, especially that from the flooding of the rivers and then being returned to the city, added to the fact that each construction of buildings that occupy the entire land, they have waterproofed it and that lot no longer absorbs water. , this added to everything that has happened in the last 30 years in the city”, he explained.

He added that when the city plan was made, the diagnosis was that almost 40% of the city’s drainage infrastructure had to be intervened.

He stated that this issue is not about politics or campaigning, but a structural issue in our city that has very serious risks of flooding due to these mismanagements.
