The Civil Defense of the State of São Paulo increased, this Tuesday (10), to 45 municipalities the number of cities in a state of alert for landslides, due to the high accumulated rainfall recorded in the last 72 hours.
The rains left the soil saturated and increased the risk of occurrences, especially in hillside areas and regions previously mapped as vulnerable. The level of attention indicates the possibility of landslides occurring, requiring increased vigilance from municipal civil defenses and the population.
The Civil Defense and Protection Contingency Plan establishes four operational levels – observation, attention, warning and maximum alert – defined based on the integrated analysis of rainfall volumes, meteorological forecasts, field inspections and the recording of occurrences.
Risk
In the attention stage, municipalities must intensify inspections in risk areas, maintain permanent monitoring of soil conditions, reinforce awareness actions among the population and keep teams and resources on standby, being able to propose raising the level of the plan if the technical criteria indicate a worsening of the scenario.
“Residents of risk areas should be alert to signs of instability such as cracks in the ground, cracks in walls, tilting of trees or posts and cracking on slopes”, says a note from Civil Defense.
In case of imminent risk, the advice is to leave the location immediately and call Civil Defense by calling 199.
