Manuel Prado, head of Climate Change at Ineter, explained that the unusual rains that have fallen in the west of the country are caused by the entry of moisture from the Pacific Ocean.

Prado clarified that it is not a phenomenon, but a flow from the southwest, a humidity that causes convective rains, typical of the rainy period, due to the unstable atmosphere and the low pressure system.

“Practically from today until Thursday (January 2nd) we are going to have interaction of low pressure systems, which are generating entry of humidity which will cause rain, mainly in the Central Region and the South Pacific Region, that is, Carazo, Masaya, Managua and Rivas,” explained Prado.

New cold front

According to Ineter, the rains will gradually stop starting this Thursday and Friday, which also coincides with the entry of a new cold front, so the temperature will drop to 17 degrees in the northern areas and up to 20 degrees in the Pacific and central areas.

In addition, moderate winds of up to 19 km per hour will contribute to the sensation of thermal drop in temperature. Ineter also warned of waves of up to 3 meters in the Caribbean of Nicaragua.
