The rains recorded in the country since last Sunday, June 12, wreaked havoc in at least six states in the west of the country, among the most affected is Mérida, where four rivers overflowed and 60 families lost their belongings.
In Amazonas, Lara, Yaracuy, Táchira Y Zulia they also caused river floods, landslides and/or road collapses.

Since 2020 it hasn’t stopped raining
Since April, Venezuela has been experiencing a period of rains that, according to the authorities, has exceeded historical records for rainfall, which has left thousands of families affected, especially in Mérida, and at least two dead.

Sanitary emergency in Obispo Ramos
Jehyson Guzmán, governor of the Mérida state, decreed this Monday, June 13, a health emergency in the Obispo Ramos de Lora municipality, part of the Pan-American axis, after the rains that are recorded in the Andean town.
Gerardo Molina, the sole health authority of the state, was in charge of offering the information indicating that the measure is produced as a result of the floods and overflows of several rivers and streams in the area that connects Mérida with the west of the country; reviewed Radio Faith and Joy.
Molina specified that the epidemiological controls will be activated in the San Rafael de Alcázar parishes and in Santa Elena de Arenales, capital of the Obispo Ramos de Lora municipality.
Trunk 001 paralyzed

Damage “substantial” in San Francisco
The mayor of the San Francisco municipality in Zulia state, Gustavo Fernández, reported this Tuesday, June 14, that the damage caused by the rains and material losses in this region are “considerable”, and that the municipality does not have sufficient financial resources to attend to all those affected.
In an interview given to Radio Faith and JoyFernández said that he is making the necessary arrangements with the governor of Zulia state, Manuel Rosales, so that with the help of the central government, they can provide care to the San Francisco municipality.
Hundreds of victims
Mayor Fernández explained that in the Manantiales sector of the Los Cortijos parish there are at least 50 affected homes. “Most of the houses are ranches that are more than a decade old,” he said.
He also indicated that in the El Manzanillo sector, in the Francisco Ochoa parish, almost a dozen homes were left exposed to the elements. The affected families took refuge in neighbors’ houses and from this Monday, June 13, the municipality began the work of replacing the roofs of the houses.
He specified that at the moment there are no shelters enabled. However, they are cared for in health and with food. In addition, there was no major damage in other areas because the behavior of the ravines (ravines) was positive. All the water flowed thanks to the fact that the channels were free of garbage.

Rains in Maracaibo
The mayor of the Maracaibo municipality, Rafael Ramírez, informed through a press conference on the morning of this Monday, June 13, that the rains registered on Sunday, June 12, left 15 affected homes and a commercial premises, 12 fallen trees in the main avenues and a fire in the CC Plazo Lago.
The mayor explained that 12 trees located on the main avenues fell, which also affected some power lines, reported Faith and joy.
“For the amount of water that fell in Maracaibo, the damage has been very minor, really,” said the director of Civil Protection, Diego Muñoz.
