Luis Mujica, director of Civil Protection of the state of Lara, offered an assessment this Friday, November 8, after the heavy rains that have been recorded in the state of Lara in recent days and during the night of Thursday, November 7.

“On the evening of November 7, we received reports of heavy rainfall, some electrical discharges that generated a progressive increase in flows in different sectors and saturation of the drainage systems,” he explained.

He also highlighted that in the municipality of Iribarren they attended to emergencies due to fallen trees, as was the case of Calle 43 and Carrera 14, in addition to the saturation of the drainage systems in different parts of Barquisimeto.

“We also have reports of some stream overflows, such as the case of Dren-X in the Guerrera Ana Soto parish, which yesterday due to heavy rainfall left its natural channel,” Mujica noted.

In foreign municipalities such as Morán, they reported damage to the roads in the Guarico parish, on the road that leads to the town of Villanueva, with two landslides and one edge fault. As well as landslides on the central-western highway in the Torres municipality, one in the Atarigua sector and another in Turturia.

In closing, he indicated that the Risk Management System of the Lara state remains “active, deployed, attending to different situations that have been reported due to hydrometeorological events” in a large part of the Lara state.

In this sense, he urged the entire Larense population to become aware and not throw waste into natural channels. “We have shown that the increases and damming of water have been due to the accumulation of garbage in natural channels.”
