MIAMI, United States. — At least 750 homes were affected by the heavy rains that hit western and central Cuba in recent days.
The figure was released this Sunday in a meeting at the headquarters of the National Civil Defense General Staff (Havana), where Governor Miguel Díaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz spoke.
According to the Minister of Economy and Planning of the Cuban regime, Alejandro Gil Fernández, damage to agriculture and the national electrical network was recorded.
It is estimated that at least 158,000 customers saw their electricity service interrupted. 3,200 hectares of crops were also damaged, including tobacco, sweet potatoes, cucumbers and squash.
Liván Nicolás Arronte Cruz, Minister of Energy and Mines, reported that of the total electrical damage, 4,487 customers remain without service, the majority in the provinces of Pinar del Río and Artemisa.
The official indicated that on Saturday no affectations were reported due to a generation deficit, and that interruptions were not expected this Sunday.
The heavy rains that hit western Cuba la Isla between Friday and Saturday left the island out of service 62 base stations and caused numerous damages to the technological infrastructure.
A preliminary report released yesterday by the state company in official media indicates that the main damages were recorded in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Havana, Mayabeque and Artemisa.
Interruptions to fixed telephony were also reported in towns of Pinar del Río, Havana, Cienfuegos and Villa Clara.
