Heavy rains caused what could have been a great tragedy in the city of Manizales; During the afternoon of this Wednesday, February 23, a new landslide fell on several houses in the capital of the department of Caldas.
Manizales authorities confirmed that the emergency occurred after 4:00 pm in the La Castellana neighborhood, in the vicinity of Centenario Avenue.
Through social networks local media and inhabitants of the area have published images where they have been giving details of the complex situation.
The mayor of Manizales, Carlos Mario Marín, made several reports of the emergency:
- “Three people have been rescued from the slope. I ask all Manizales not to interfere with the work of relief agencies who are securing the area. There is no entrance to the El Bosque neighborhood and you cannot walk behind the Centenario neighborhood.
- “The relief agencies transferred a person who was injured after the landslide to a health center in the area. Relief agencies are inspecting the sector to determine the number of people trapped.”

So far relief agencies have not confirmed whether there are people trapped in homes or fatalities.
However, search and rescue efforts continue.
