Rains cause floods and the fall of a tree in Quito

The storm occurred on the afternoon of this Saturday, December 11, 2021 in the center, south and in the Los Chillos valley area. No casualties were reported.

The intense rains registered on the afternoon of this Saturday (December 11, 2021) in various sectors of the capital caused material damage, according to a report by the Corps of Quito firefighters and the Ecu 9-1-1 Integrated Security System.

In the El Panecillo sector, for example, a tree planted in the courtyard of a house fell on the house, crushing the roof and several walls of the building. As a result of the accident, attributed to the storm, two people were trapped inside and had to be rescued by the firefighters.

Meanwhile, the force of the rainfall produced a flood in the lower levels of the El Tejar Shopping Center, located in the neighborhood of the same name (Historic Center), which affected the owners of several stores. As in the previous case, the firefighters they helped those affected; in this case, evacuating the accumulated liquid.

And in a similar event, the accumulation of water affected a house located in the Los Chillos valley (in the southeast of Quito). According to firefighters, they had to evacuate 125 cubic meters of water from the site. (LAG)
