Rains cause flooding, fallen trees and damage to homes in Edomex and CDMX

Chalco is one of the municipalities most affected by the rains, which have caused flooding in the streets, affecting more than 2,000 people.

The water has reached at least 30 centimeters for two weeks, which has caused residents of this town to leave their homes. Federal and local authorities are carrying out actions such as dredging, rescue, evacuation of people, vaccination and distribution of food rations.

Other towns in the State of Mexico and Mexico City have also registered flooding, such as Álvaro Obregón, where restaurants have been left “underwater.” In this case, the San Ángel Inn restaurant was found, where workers had to remove the water with buckets.

The heavy rains also caused damage to houses and cars in the Álvaro Obregón municipality, so cleaning crews went to the Atlamaya neighborhood, since the water reached between four and five meters.

In addition, the rains have also caused trees to fall, which in turn caused accidents, such as the one recorded in the Benito Juárez municipality. In this place, a child was rescued who was trapped in a vehicle, on which a 25-meter-high tree fell. The child and his father survived, but the mother died.

Flooding has also been reported on avenues in Mexico City, causing traffic jams, such as on San Antonio Avenue, where three days ago the rainwater remained stagnant, reaching 40 centimeters.

According to the Mexican government, heavy rains will continue in the country due to a “low pressure channel over the center of the country, coupled with the entry of moisture from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico and instability at high levels of the atmosphere.”

Tomorrow, rain, lightning and hail are expected in Mexico City and the State of Mexico.
