Rain causes landslides and flooding in northern Mexico City

Since 5:00 p.m. on July 30, heavy rains have been recorded on the borders of Mexico City and the State of Mexico, causing a mudslide and garbage to fall on the Mexico-Pachuca highway near San Juan Ixhuatepec in the direction of Indios Verdes.

According to authorities in Tlalnepantla, State of Mexico, 60 cubic meters of material slid, affecting four of the five lanes of the road, which caused a traffic conflict that lasted for several kilometers.

Motorists who managed to overcome the landslide on Mexico Pachuca were unable to easily advance towards the capital, since meters ahead, there was flooding in both directions on Insurgentes Avenue near Indios Verdes.

The flooding left hundreds of vehicles stranded, including buses and public transport vans, affecting thousands of users heading to various municipalities in the State of Mexico and Hidalgo, whose main exit from the capital is through Indios Verdes.

Since 4:00 p.m., the Civil Protection Secretariat of Mexico City issued an orange alert in the Gustavo A. Madero municipality due to heavy rains of up to 49 millimeters of water, which is considered intense precipitation, accompanied by strong gusts of wind.
