AFE signed a framework agreement with the Municipality and is analyzing resuming it between Montevideo and Río Branco
The President of the organization, Ernesto César, highlighted the need to organize the railway heritage and announced progress in a new freight transportation system
The president of the State Railway Administration Board (AFE), Ernesto César, visited the department of Cerro Largo to sign a framework agreement with the Departmental Administration, in an event held in the city of Melo together with Mayor Christian Morel and mayors of the department, including Federico López and the mayor of Cerro de las Cuentas.
RESUME FREQUENCY TO RÍO BRANCO
On the occasion, César announced that the possibility of resuming the frequency of rail freight transport between Montevideo and Río Branco is being considered, within the framework of a new railway system that is under study. The initiative aims to strengthen logistics and reactivate a strategic connection for the northeast of the country.
During the press conference, the leader explained that one of the main mandates of the current AFE administration, in addition to rail transportation, is to organize and regularize the organization’s vast assets.
“We are here in the city of Melo to explain what this administration’s commitment consists of. AFE has a presence throughout the national territory and has more than 2,000 properties, but historically it has never managed to complete a total inventory of its assets,” he pointed out.
César recognized that this situation has generated difficulties and delays over time, even affecting communities in the deep interior. In this sense, he indicated that an agreement will also be signed with the Ministry of Transportation, particularly with the National Directorate of Topography, to incorporate technology that allows georeferencing and inventorying the entity’s real estate.
The framework agreement with the Municipality of Cerro Largo seeks to establish a strategic alliance with the departmental government and local boards, with the objective of organizing administrative processes and moving towards concrete solutions.
Likewise, the president of AFE requested the collaboration of the people of Cerro Largo, through the Municipality, for the maintenance of railway assets and to facilitate procedures that must be carried out in the territory.
In this way, the railway organization begins a stage that combines patrimonial reorganization with the projection of new opportunities for freight transportation, news that generates expectations in the border region.
