The business group Ferrocarriles de Russia RZD and its Chinese counterpart State Railways of China They agreed to a gradual increase in cargo transit through the so-called transshipment points between the two countries, according to the Russian company.
“Following talks with Ferrocarriles de China we agreed to gradually increase the delivery of trains through transshipment points,” the Russian rail giant was quoted as saying by Interfax.
These points are necessary in the transit of trains between countries like Russia Y China due to the fact that locomotives have different power supply systems, therefore, the loads must be transferred in terminals specially designed for this purpose.
According to RZD, cargo transit through the Zabaikalsk point, located on the Russian-Chinese border compared to Manshuoli province, it grew by 27% in April compared to the previous month, while in Grodékovo, which borders Heilongjiang province, it increased by 10%.
“The transport of export cargoes to China through Kazakhstan and Mongolia,” added the business group.
RZD pointed out that the transport of coal is added to that of other cargo, which has meant an increase in cargo requests of almost 30% compared to 2021.
In the first quarter of 2022, the Polígono Oriental (includes the Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian railways) passed more than 3,500 trains heavy-duty and 1,700 trains mixed, which transported more than 6.5 million tons.
